Learn to Swim

Thailand - Chanthaburi Province - 01.10.2014 - 01.10.2015

With the support of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the Swimsafe Sharks Thailand, a drowning prevention group, will be running a year-long water safety and learn to swim program in three schools in the areas of Soi Dao and Pongamgon, Chanthaburi Province, near the Cambodian border.

From October 1st, 2014 through October 1st, 2015 The Swimsafe Sharks aim to educate and equip more than 1,000 children aged 5-18 years with the skills they need to avoid drowning. Emphasis will be on recreational safety and emergency situations such as flooding, to which this geographical area is prone.

To reinforce their efforts and because this particular area of Thailand is considered to be in the epicenter of the world drowning crisis, the Swimsafe Sharks arranged with the Thai Life Saving Society to run a three-day intensive survival swimming course for 20 local teachers from five schools in the area.  This took place from the 11th-13th November, 2014.The goal is to encourage these educators to teach water safety as part of the regular school curriculum.
