Learn to Swim

Thailand - Chanthaburi Province - Summer 2016

With the support of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, “Swimsafe Sharks Thailand” have been running a Learn to Swim and Water Safety programme since October 2014 in two schools that have swimming pools. They are located in Soi Dao and Pongnamron in the Province of Chanthaburi, near the Cambodian border.

With the continued support of the Foundation in 2016, they have been able make necessary alterations to one of these pools to make it safe and usable in all types of weather. These alterations have included a new roof. The biggest benefit is they’ve been able to continue teaching through the Monsoon season.

With the help of the Thai Lifesaving Society, who trained up teachers in the schools to give the lessons, this programme taught 944 children how to swim from November 2014 through to December 2015. They intend on reaching a further 1,350 children by the end of 2016.
