Drowning is considered a leading killer, every year more than 320,000 people die from drowning worldwide according to the World Health Organization

More than half of all drowning deaths (60%) occur to those under the age of 30, men are twice as likely to drown as females.

It can also be noted that over 90% of drowning deaths occur in low and middle income countries.

Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide.
