HEROES Project – Zimbabwe – July / September 2017



The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation supports the Kirsty Coventry Academy’s HEROES (Health, Education, Respect, Opportunity, Equality, Sports) project. The association was created by the swimmer, seven-time Olympic medallist and five-time world record holder.
 
The programme HEROES started in Zimbabwe in July and will end in December 2017.  
 
In August and September, HEROES have been able to accomplish the following:
 
  • 16 coaches First Aid and CPR certified
 
  • 2 coaches trained and certified as learn-to-swim coaches
 
  • 3 Orphanages are involved in this program
 
  • Over 500 children per week are getting to play 3-4 different sports (basketball, rugby, soccer and swimming)
 
  • 1,000 children received water safety and drowning prevention classes, among them, 800 also received swimming lessons
 
  • HEROES has launched in 2 different locations in Zimbabwe: Chitungwiza and Kambuzuma
 
  • All this is provided free of charge to the kids
