April 6 was declared, by the UN General Assembly and the International Olympic Committee, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
In order to celebrate this date, 380 9th grade students from the schools in Monaco (Collège Charles III, Collège FANB and Lycée Technique et Hotelier – SEGPA), divided in 76 teams, took part in the 4th Princess Charlene Rallye.
The event was organised by Monaco’s Department of Education, Youth and Sport in collaboration with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, Peace and Sport and the APEM (Parent-Teacher Association of Monaco). The Rally was comprised of a timed running race and three workshops – a sports competition (1,200 metres on a rowing machine), a teamwork-based event (using stretchers to bring victims to safety at the Aquatic Rescue Center of Monaco) and lastly an intellectual challenge (multiple choice test questions).
The freediving quadruple world record holder, Mr. Pierre Frolla, Ambassador for the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and Peace and Sport, and Mr. Jean-François Tordo, “Champion for Peace” and former Captain of the French rugby team, hosted a conference to share their experience with the teenagers.
A drawing workshop allowed each team to express its perception of this day through an artistic creation.
The Princess Charlene Rally teaches children the values of sport: team spirit, respect, solidarity, the appreciation of hard work and cooperation.
In order to commemorate the occasion, the event concluded with a symbolic “#White Card” souvenir picture.
