April 6 was declared, by the United Nations General Assembly and the International Olympic Committee, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

In order to celebrate this date, 430 9th grade students from the schools in Monaco (Collège Charles III, Collège FANB and Lycée Technique et Hotelier – SEGPA), divided in 84 teams, took part in the 6th Princess Charlene Rally on Friday 5 April 2019.

The event was organised by Monaco’s Department of Education, Youth and Sport in collaboration with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, Peace and Sport, the APEM (Parent-Teacher Association of Monaco) and the CMA (Monegasque Anti-doping Committee). It teaches children the values of sport:  team spirit, respect, solidarity, the appreciation of hard work and cooperation.

The Rally was comprised of a timed running race and three workshops – a sports competition (1,200 metres on a rowing machine), a teamwork-based event (using stretchers to bring victims to safety at the Aquatic Rescue and Diving Center of Monaco) and lastly an intellectual challenge (multiple choice test questions).

The gymnast Kevin Crovetto, Gold and Bronze medallist at the Games of the Small States of Europe and Marc Raquil, 4x 400 m. World Champion and “Champion of Peace” hosted a conference to share their experiences with the teenagers.

A drawing workshop allowed each team to express its perception of this day through an artistic creation.

In order to commemorate the occasion, the event concluded with a symbolic “#White Card” souvenir picture.
