"South Africa - Monaco Rugby Exchange" - 23-31.07.2017

As part of the “South Africa – Monaco Rugby Exchange”, one of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation’s flagship projects in its “Sport & Education” programme, the “Fédération Monégasque de Rugby” U16 team (under 16) went to Durban, South Africa, from the 23rd to the 31st of July 2017.

This exchange, in partnership with the South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA), enabled those young rugby players to discover the country and its culture as well as to train in a sport they so admire.

The participants took part in a rugby 7 tournament – which they won – and attended the Currie Cup between the Sharks and the Pumas on Saturday 29 July. Before going back home, the young Monegasques received valuable advice from former Springbok coach Mr. Ian McIntosh.

The stay ended on Sunday 30 with an aquatic rescue session organized by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa. The young athletes had an opportunity to learn how to react in case of drowning.

Besides the competition, this experience was synonymous with sharing and with the values conveyed by sport: discipline, self-respect and respect of others, determination and team spirit.
