2025 Sainte Dévote Tournament

On April 25 and 26, the 13th edition of the Sainte Dévote Tournament brought excitement and energy to the Louis-II Stadium, once again confirming its place as a key international event in junior rugby. Organized by the Monegasque Rugby Federation in partnership with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, this year’s tournament gathered 24 under-12 teams representing 21 countries from across the globe: South Africa, England, Andorra, Argentina, Belgium, United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Ecuador, Spain, United States, France, Georgia, Greece, Mauritius, India, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Switzerland, Zimbabwe, and Monaco.

The opening ceremony took place on Friday, April 25, in the early afternoon, attended by H.S.H. Princess Charlene, President of the Monegasque Rugby Federation, accompanied by this year’s guest of honor, Tendai Mtawarira. The legendary Springboks prop and 2019 Rugby World Cup champion brought inspiration and joy to the young players.

Matches kicked off on fields named in tribute to Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. The morning also featured a “Rugby for All” activity, offering schoolchildren from the Principality and young adults with disabilities an inclusive introduction to the sport in a warm and welcoming setting.

On Saturday, April 26, the final match saw Montpellier Hérault Rugby claim victory over England’s Cobham FC (2-0). Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene attended the match and the awards ceremony. Princess Charlene also presented the Sainte Dévote Trophy to the Monaco national team, who won their traditional match against Rugby Club Lucciana, a highlight of the tournament since its founding in 2011.

The prize-giving ceremony, held in the presence of tournament ambassador Tendai Mtawarira, also honored Xavier Papp of Switzerland’s Rugby Vaudois, named best player of the tournament.

Beyond the competition, the 13th Sainte Dévote Tournament stood out for its friendly spirit and strong educational impact, fully embodying the values of sport: solidarity, respect, tolerance, and inclusion.
