Building Positive Community Impact Around Loumbila Training Centre, Burkina Faso
Led by the Burkinabè Red Cross with the support of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and the Monaco Red Cross, this project strengthens water safety and community resilience in the Loumbila area. Launched in July 2023, the second phase has continued through 2024 and 2025, delivering swimming lessons aligned with the school calendar and ongoing community lifesaving training.
Swimming lessons benefited 222 secondary school students, helping them develop essential aquatic skills. Complementary educational activities, including first aid training and health awareness sessions, supported students’ wellbeing.
At community level, continuous water rescue training was provided to local lifeguards living near the dam, bringing the total number of trained rescuers to 97. Through this integrated approach, the project contributes to safer practices and stronger community preparedness in Loumbila.
