Promoting Water Safety Education in Japan
In partnership with the Japan Lifesaving Association, the programme addresses the growing risk of drowning in Japan, where around 800 people lose their lives each year, nearly half of them at the ocean or on beaches. As opportunities for children to learn water safety decline due to extreme temperatures and aging school facilities, the project responds to an urgent need for prevention and education.
The initiative focuses on children while also reaching juniors and adults, raising awareness of aquatic risks and providing practical skill-building through water safety classes, sports clinics and lifesaving sport competitions. By combining education and hands-on experience, the programme contributes to strengthening water safety knowledge and resilience across communities in Japan.
