Together against drowning: an awareness-raising day supported by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation

On Friday, July 25, 2025, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, in collaboration with the Monaco Town Hall, the Monaco Red Cross, the Monaco Fire Brigade and the Sureté Publique, organized the “World Drowning Prevention Day” at the Stade Nautique Rainier III.

The date of July 25 was set by the United Nations in April 2021 with the adoption of the resolution on global drowning prevention. This resolution calls on all member states to take national and local action to combat this silent epidemic.

The aim of the day is to remind people of the consequences of drowning, and to offer children and adults practical solutions to promote safety in the aquatic environment, in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

To mark the occasion, a partners’ village was set up at the entrance to the municipal swimming pool, to raise public awareness of the actions taken by Monegasque entities in the fight against drowning and the risks associated with summer activities.

As part of the event, the Foundation offered free access to the pool for young people under 18 for the whole day, and the opportunity to take an aquatic fluency test.

The Princely Palace was lit up in blue during the evening, symbolizing a strong commitment to water safety.
