Together for the Pelagos Crossing

Monaco-led endurance swim across the Pelagos Sanctuary to support drowning prevention, swimming education, and marine conservation.

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation today announced the launch of the ‘Together for the Pelagos Crossing,’ a landmark open-water endurance swim connecting Italy and Monaco through the protected waters of the Pelagos Sanctuary for Mediterranean Marine Mammals.

The initiative brings together sport, philanthropy, and environmental responsibility in a shared mission to raise international awareness for drowning prevention, swimming education, and Mediterranean marine conservation.

The June 2026 crossing will take place within the Pelagos Sanctuary, an internationally protected marine area spanning 87,500 km² and jointly managed by France, Monaco, and Italy. Established to protect whales, dolphins, and fragile marine ecosystems, the sanctuary represents one of the Mediterranean’s most important symbols of sustainable ocean stewardship.

By crossing these waters, the Foundations aim to highlight both the human impact of drowning worldwide and the urgent need to preserve marine ecosystems for future generations.

The initiative also reinforces Monaco’s long-standing commitment to environmental leadership and humanitarian action through international collaboration and public engagement.

Additional event details, participating athletes, strategic partners, and fundraising initiatives will be announced in the coming weeks.
