Water Safety Day Monaco – A day devoted to prevention and sport
Late morning on Tuesday 17 June, H.S.H. Princess Charlène was on Larvotto Beach for the traditional Water Safety Day, organised by the Princess Charlène of Monaco Foundation in partnership with the Monegasque Maritime Academy.
Since 2014, this awareness-raising day has aimed to introduce young people in the Principality to lifesaving gestures, water safety and lifesaving sport. This year, almost 100 6th and 5th form pupils from Monegasque secondary schools took part in a series of practical and theoretical workshops led by :
– Pierre Frolla, ambassador for the Foundation and four-time world record holder in freediving
– Teams from the Monegasque Academy of the Sea,
– The Monegasque Red Cross.
And a number of athlete ambassadors for the Princess Charlène of Monaco Foundation: Jérôme Fernandez (handball), Kevin Crovetto (gymnastics), Julien Lalanne (coastal lifesaving), Antoine Zeghdar (rugby) and Marine Simonis (freediving).
On the programme: coastal lifesaving, buoy tube lifesaving, Nipper Board, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and even fun games like musical batons.
This year’s event was also marked by the exceptional presence of a group of New Zealand swimmers, who were training in Monaco before the summer competitions. They were accompanied by their coach, Graham Hill, former swimming coach to H.S.H. Princess Charlène, for a day of intercultural sharing of swimming and water safety.
It was a day rich in emotions, learning and encounters, designed to teach the youngest children the right reflexes and the values of sport and solidarity.
