Youth of La Tortue Island Embrace the Benefits of the Sea, Haiti

Led by L’Appel association in partnership with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the programme began in February 2025 to teach swimming and water safety on La Tortue Island. Despite challenging conditions, it reached nearly 500 children, youth and adults, with high attendance and progressive skill development.

Swimming lessons and professional lifeguard training enabled participants to gain confidence, basic swimming and lifesaving skills. Thirty-five lifeguards were formally recognized, reinforcing local capacity. Essential teaching materials were provided to all schools.

Beyond aquatic skills, the programme promoted civic and environmental values, fostering self-confidence and community cohesion, contributing to safer practices and greater aquatic literacy on the island.
