Emirates Dubai 7s – Impi’s & Umusa teams

In 2017, H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco and Mr. Gareth Wittstock created the Impi’s rugby 7s team for the Dubai 7s tournament. The team lines up professional and amateur players to represent the Monaco Rugby Federation and the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.

The Emirates Dubai 7s has been one of the most prestigious stages of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series since its inception in 1999 and is the only tournament to host the Men & Women’s series every year. The 2021 edition took place in Dubai on December 2-4.

This year, the Impi’s were promoted to the “International Invitation” category following strong results and a women’s rugby 7s team, the Umusa (meaning “graceful” in Zulu), was created to participate in the tournament in the “International Open” category.

For the first time, both men’s and women’s teams held high the colours of the Principality and of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, proudly highlighting their identity and showcasing the values of solidarity, sportsmanship, and inclusivity.

This exceptional human and cultural adventure is a fantastic opportunity to train Monegasque players along with teammates and opponents of an international level.

Congratulations to all the players who showed determination and courage throughout the competition and during the tournament’s preparation.

And a big thank you to the staff, the volunteers, and our sponsors, partners, and supporters!
