Success of the 1st Water Safety Day in Italy: A Day of Awareness in Jesolo
On July 23, 2025, Jesolo (Veneto) hosted the very first Water Safety Day ever held in Italy, under the patronage of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, in partnership with the Honorary Consulate of Monaco in Venice.
Thanks to the coordination of Ms. Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul, and the active support of the Municipality of Jesolo, the event reached more than 140 children aged 6 to 12, raising their awareness of water safety issues.
With summer holidays in Italy lasting almost three months, the city of Jesolo which manages summer camps for children mobilized its educational staff to offer a fun and educational day focused on preventing water-related accidents.
Children took part in several hands-on workshops: first aid basics (CPR, airway clearance), local water environment awareness (hazards and prevention), rescue-themed sport activities (rescue boards, water games).
A highlight of the day was the inclusive workshop with rescue dogs, which brought joy especially to children with disabilities, on an accessible and inclusive beach.
The day opened with an official ceremony attended by: Mr. Christofer De Zotti, Mayor of Jesolo, Mr. Mauro Filippi, Director of Azienda ULSS 4, Mr. Roberto Cognonato, President of the Veneto Regional Committee of the Italian Swimming Federation, Ms. Eleonora Baldo, President of Jesolo Turismo SPA, Ms. Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul, and Mr. Xavier Archimbault, Project Manager and official representative of the Foundation.
The initiative was met with enthusiasm. Each child received a t-shirt and small gifts featuring the event’s partners, funded by the Foundation, which also covered the travel costs of specialized instructors through the Italian Lifesaving Federation.
The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation warmly thanks all partners, local institutions, educators, volunteers, and children who contributed to the success of this first Water Safety Day in Italy.
