World Drowning Prevention Day

This Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation organized, in collaboration with the Town Hall of Monaco, the Monegasque Red Cross, the Fire Brigade of Monaco, the Public Safety, the “World Day for the Prevention of Drowning” at the Rainier III Nautical Stadium.
The date of 25 July was set by the United Nations in April 2021 with the adoption of the resolution on global drowning prevention. This resolution calls on all member states to take national and local measures to fight this silent epidemic.
This day aims to remind the consequences of drowning and to propose to children and adults practical solutions to promote safety in the aquatic environment, in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

On this occasion, a partners’ village was set up at the entrance to the municipal swimming pool, in order to raise public awareness of the actions taken by the Monegasque entities as part of the fight against drowning and the risks associated with summer activities:
- The Maritime and Airport Police Division notably demonstrated its state-of-the-art equipment for heart massage.
- Rescue demonstrations and first aid actions were carried out by volunteers from the Monegasque Red Cross and the Monaco Fire Department on mannequins.
- The lifeguards of the Rainier III Nautic Stadium and the Maritime Police carried out rescue demonstrations in the pool.
Also in this context, the Foundation offered to the first 100 young people under 18 years of age free access to the pool during the whole day and the passage of the aquatic ease test.
