The Riviera Water Bike Challenge

Depuis 2017

The Riviera Water Bike Challenge is a caritative challenge that corresponds to the philosophy of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and  the sporting values it defends, combining solidarity, perseverance and conviviality.

In its classic format, the Riviera Water Bike Challenge is a team race on water bikes, in relay, which brings together many sports celebrities in the Principality of Monaco. Participating celebrities are drawn at random and awarded to each partner team of the race.

Water bikes are ergonomic and extremely stable: they can reach a speed of about 6 knots (13 km/h).

Beyond the sporting feat and the originality of the water bikes, the exposure of this event promotes the programmes of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and raises funds.

Over the years, the Water Bike Challenge has given rise to different routes for unique and unforgettable events for both the general public and the participants.

  • 2017 : Nice – Monaco
  • 2018 : Port of Monaco
  • 2020 : The Crossing : Calvi – Monaco
  • 2022 : Port of Monaco

“Many years ago, we started throwing around the daunting idea of organising a fund-raising sporting event like no other: the crossing of the Mediterranean on water bikes. This evolved into the Riviera Water Bike Challenge, which took place in 2017 between Nice and Monaco and in 2018 in Monaco.

This new activity then went on to represent the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and what it stands for.

In 2020, the global pandemic prevented us from organising  the Riviera Water Bike Challenge, which brings together a large number of participants. At that point, the original idea of the Crossing resurfaced and became “Calvi-Monaco”.”
