The Princess Charlene of Monaco warns of the dangers of drowning: “Behind every drowning, there is a devastated family.”
Faced with a sharp increase in drownings this summer, Princess Charlene of Monaco is sounding the alarm. "I am deeply concerned about this sharp increase in drownings. Yes, many of these tragedies can be prevented," she says. For her, the solution lies in prevention and education: “When you know how to swim and you know the safety rules, you greatly reduce the risk.” She is therefore calling for “free lessons, school courses, and educational campaigns.” This cause is also personal. “When I was a child, my cousin Richard drowned in a river. He was only five years old. It was devastating for our whole family.” This is the fight that drives her foundation, which is active in 44 countries: “Learning to swim should be a fundamental right, just like learning to read.” She sums up her message simply: “Knowing how to swim is a gift that lasts a lifetime.” Read the full interview of Ouest France (13.08.2025) here:
